Tips on what to do in the sun

Stay safe with the following tips*:

1. Babies and toddlers should not be exposed to direct sunlight, especially in the first year.

2. Avoid the midday sun (between 11am and 3pm).

3. Dress in appropriate clothing (with UV protection):

  • sun hat (with neck protection)
  • long, thin trousers
  • long-sleeved, loose T-shirt
  • shoes or baby socks
  • sunglasses, when the child is old enough

4. Before going out, apply special sunscreen for children/babies to all unprotected areas of the skin such as the backs of the hands, face and neck.

5. Stay under sunshades or awnings as much as possible.

Remember that sunburn only becomes noticeable when the damage is already done. These tips will help you and your child to stay safe! Also bear in mind that sun protection is not just for when you are on holidays at the beach, but for every time you go outdoors and are exposed to the sunlight.

Good to know:

Of course, the sun has its benefits as well, and this is why exercising and spending time outdoors is important. As you probably already know, sunlight is good for our mood. We feel happier and more energetic on sunny days, and babies are no different.
