How can I prevent nappy rash?
The main preventative measures are quite general, like changing baby’s nappies frequently, wiping very gently when removing stool, and drying the nappy area before putting on a new nappy. Allowing your baby to go without a nappy for a while is always good. Barrier creams can help with mild irritations, as most contain zinc and protect against further irritation.
In the event of an actual nappy rash, with very red, weeping skin and/or sore spots on the stomach and thighs, you usually need to apply medicated ointments or solutions with anti-inflammatory and disinfectant properties. You can get these from your paediatrician or dermatologist.
